The African Fish Eagle Project, is part of The Peregrine Fund's Pan Africa Raptor Conservation Program aimed at building local capacity for conservation of biodiversity by focusing on birds of prey and their ecological needs. The East African region supports nearly 20% of the world's raptor species, many of which are threatened by human-caused habitat change. Home to the largest population of African Fish Eagles in Kenya, Lake Naivasha is threatened by excessive water extraction, loss of riparian habitat, excessive nutrients, alien species introductions and a rapidly growing human population. The African Fish Eagle acts a barometer of the lake's health. By understanding how the species adapts to these threats, we gain a scientifically sound understanding of the dynamics of Lake Naivasha, critical towards its future survival. Your contribution, no matter how small will take us closer towards our goal.
