from Vivaldi's opera La fida ninfa (The Faithful Nymph)
Recorded as part of the Vivaldi Edition from Naïve.
Topi Lehtipuu (Narete)
Ensemble Matheus, Jean-Christophe Spinosi
This opera premiered during carnival of 1732 in Verona (Maffei's home town) at the Teatro della Accademia Filarmonica for the theater's inauguration.
Libretto by Francesco Scipione Maffei.
Non tempesta, che gli alberi sfronda,
e percuate la messe, e flagella,
portò mai nel mio sen tal dolor.
Nè torrente che vinca la sponda,
nè saetta che avvampi, o procella,
al mio spirto dier mai tal timor.
TRANSLATION:
The storm which strips the trees of leaves
And lashes the crops
Never caused such grief in my breast.
Neither the torrent that overflows it brooks,
Nor the lightning flash, nor the tempest,
Ever struck such fear in my soul.
