Saturday 20th February 2010 saw the first major railtour of the GW175 year. 'The Great Western Incursion' saw GWR 4-6-0s 4965 'Rood Ashton Hall' and 5043 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe' heading from their home base at Tyseley to the home of the Great Western Society at Didcot via the Golden Valley. I was in the company of JBTEvans, GJDobbzy, and jakeyboygen for the day, which included a visit to the STEAM Museum in Swindon between the outward and return runs.

The tour is first seen at Ashchurch for Tewksbury shortly before the water stop at Gloucester. The second outward shot sees the tour climbing Sapperton Bank towards Sapperton Tunnel. Finally we see the return at Kemble, with the all clear being given literally as the train was approaching the platform.

This video is dedicated to Andrew Hook, good friend and Chairman of the Great Western Society Bristol Area, who died a week before this raitour.

  • Great footage chap!

Really great, and you got to see them 3 times...I do have to say though, aren't those photographers in the second shot rather close to the line?

    Well Done!

    Tom

  • Thanks

Concerning the photographers I believe they are behind a wire fence, it just doesn't seem to be very visable in the video.
