  • What about peak food. The problem is we are approaching 8 billion people on earth. We are loosing millions of acres of farmable land every year to encroaching deserts. Australian crops failed entirely this year for the first time. with the population growing at the rate it is we will be eating each other in a few short years, or killing each other in fewer.

  • They were being used as an example of how totally stoved we are.

Even if we have an available magic bullet solution in hand right now, due to the scale that we'd have to implement it alone, there would still be energy shortfalls and economic dislocations.

  • I think Mexico will be ok... if they can't sell their oil they could just sell the US more drugs. The dope zombies here would rather smoke than eat. With nothing else to do they'll just smoke until there's smog of meth smoke. They'll figure out how to make their cars run off of used meth chemicals. Birth defects will skyrocket... thus making them even readier to smoke from just well... their parents will just put it in their baby bottle. Mexicans will walk around town with doses for zombies

  • Almost 2012 now, I dont see the world going under.

  • @Standuble I think we've been at the 'bumpy plateau' since March of 2005. Look at global oil production and you'll see it's been static for the last six years. That has never happened before. In which case the 2006 date you mentioned would be more or less the same as what I think: we've already hit the tipping point.

There's still very little talk about this, but the main stream is giving it more air-time. They're having to admit it and they're doing it slowly so as not to upset the natives.

  • @bobbygnosis A recent article from the IEA this year suggested a 2006 date for the peak of conventional oil. It should also be noted that there could be a lot of denial over such an issue had occured for several years, when the USA's production had peaked it took the oil industry several years to admit it, before then it made excuses or alternate suggestions for the loss in production.

So its possible his dates aren't off at all, its just that the effects weren't felt due to 2008 demand loss.

  • His time-line is wrong (obvioulsy). However, his projections make perfect sense. I think it'll be within the next decade that we see the full effects. And I think it'll be in retrospect. The news will not cover this unless they have to. In all likelihood we'll be shown game shows hours before the shit actually hits the fan.

  • all this shit revolves around over population

  • @FavComents thats because the recession hit and demand destruction occurred. Now Egypt is about to fall and it will spread across the Mid east. fuck...

  • I've been preparing my family for Peak Oil for several years now....

  • its nearly 2010 now and its not that bad..

  • trust me when oil runs out it will be a good thing not a bad thing LOL
