Raise in grain prices are because of:
1. Land distribution inequality. In traditionally agrarian, self-sufficient societies large land owners are selling grain to the international market and at lower prices domestically.
2. Increase in meat consumption in developing nations due to economic growth.
3. The biofuel boom is driving corn and soy through the roof.
4. Increase in petroleum prices mean exorbitantly higher transportation costs for imported grains.
