This how I make Baklava! It's a delicious honey cinnamon sugar dessert that's fun to make! Enjoy!
You'll need:
1.5 lb. ground nuts (walnuts and pistachios)
1 c. sugar
1 pkg. baklava dough (at room temp)
3/4 lb. melted butter (may use 1/2 Parkay)
2 Sticks of melted butter
2 c. sugar
1 Tlbs. lemon juice
1/4 c. honey
Mix nuts, sugar, and cinnamon; set aside. Carefully unwrap dough. Keep covered in damp towel as you work. Place cookie sheet or pan on dough and cut off excess. Butter cookie sheet or pan and put dough down to cover pan. Brush melted butter. Spread nut mixture about 1/4 inch thick. Repeat until mixture runs out. Continue dough layers only, buttering after each layer, until you run out of butter or pan is 3/4 full.
Bake approximately 40 minutes at 375 degrees until golden brown and crisp.
Make syrup. Boil water and sugar until syrup textures; add lemon juice and honey. Set aside to cool while baking Baklava.
Remove Balkava from oven, then pour syrup on hot Baklava!! Let cool to room temperature before cutting and serving / storing. The Baklava will keep indefinitely or freeze.
Cut with a sharp knife into diamond shapes or 2 inch squares.
