Dayjur

Dayjur is quite simply one of the greatest sprinters of all time. The only sprinter rated higher by timeform is a horse called Abernant who raced in the 1950's. For me, I consider Dayjur the best flat racehorse I've ever seen. His Nunthorpe track record still stands at York and it's not surprising when you see the sheer power of his performance that day. He ran an astonishing race in America at the Breeders Cup when you consider it was his first run on the dirt and he was drawn out wide. He deserved to win and his loss is one of the unluckiest in racing history. We haven't seen his like since.

I saw Black Caviar's most recent victory and was really impressed. It's a shame that she won't be brought over for Royal Ascot because I can't think of a sprinter over here that could beat her. I have to say I really do hate statements like 'Dayjur wouldn't have seen which way she went'. Dayjur was dominant in his time, BC looks like she could be dominant now, comparing them is totally pointless. There's no way knowing who would have won because obviously they'll never race each other.

I know abernant is rated higher by timeform.But lets be honest ,there has never been a sprinter in europe that has even come close to Dayjur ever!!.Quite simply the greatest of all time.

@frankschlanker You will see soon enough how great she is. Fair call I guess but to me she will win by as far Nolen allows her to win races like the Kings Stand etc

@frankschlanker Probably not but she wins far more easily than Dayjur did and she has now won 16/16 versus 7/11. I think it is fair to say she is his peer by now. The demand for her to travel is simply to tick a box. What sane person would seriously think she wouldn't destroy any Euro sprinter of today? I agree Dayjur is the best Euro sprinter ever, with the possible exception of Abernant, so I am in no way disrespecting him.

@schardy80 Dayjur stopped racing as 3yo and never flat out!! So what would he have achieved if he'd been kept in racing as long as Black Caviar who is still running as 5yo??? Dont forget Dayjur only ran in 6 sprint races. Black Caviar has ran in 16!!!!! Maybe once shes a 6yo she will have achieved his rating. Also, Royal Academy the year Dayjur beat him went onto win THE BREEDERS CUP MILE any of Black Caviars opponents capable of doing that?? Bring her out of Oz!!

Australia is known world wide as breeders of the best sprinters. sacred kingdom,silent witness, vain, manikato, etc etc etc...those name were world champion rated sprinters, once in a generation champions....Black Caviar is a once in a century sprinter, a freak. she would beat frankel easily up to 7f

I have his granddaughter, Queeninbluejeans. I don't count that Breeder's Cup as a loss; he was clearly the best horse!!
