This lovely Christmas hymn was a normal part of my Christmas when I was a child in Ireland in the 1940s and 1950s and as a n adult in Wales until the 1970s when anything that even sounded like Latin was shown the door.
The Catholic Church has become a little less sacred as a consequence but I still love it dearly...

The "languor" is designed to facilitate meditation and contemplation. Good liturgical music is a form of prayer, after all, and should be presented that way. If you want peppy and cheerful, I'm sure Hannah Montana would be happy to oblige you.
