Started my Polo 2000 type 6N2 after 20 days in winter, where average temperature was about - 9°C. So I heard this ticking and knocking sound of my 1.4 MPI engine and wanted to ask what could be the problem? In 3:10 the ticking noise has started, in 4:48 the sound is maybe cylinder misfire? Would appreciate any suggestions. Knocking sound I think I have heard from time I bought this car.

  • wv polo has this carachteristic noise problem. it s oil pump is not sufficeient specially when it is pumping cold oil. when it is warmer oil gets easiser to pump and better lubrication redecus the noise. nothing to worry about as it is made for durabilty, dont go for cheap engine oil,,, and engine oil treatments may be questioned as they make the oil harder specially when it cold..

  • @sonerykaya After 1 week when I took car to VW official workshop and changed oil/filter sound wasn't for some time, now again I hear it. And I haven't driven so much. That tick is really strange, after warm up I can hear it, when now in summer it is started, I sometimes don't hear it at the start, only later on. Rough sound of engine dissapears after it is warmed up, thats sure, but sound from my video starting 3:10 minute is mostly showing up when engine is warmed up.

  • @martinsh23 you start hear it later on because as it gets warm up other noises (from lack of labrication)reduces and u start to hear that ticking on the back ground. polo does this noise after a certain milage. your engine doesnt misfire as it would trigger engine check light straight away. check the sparkling plugs and anything related to it. but I would say dont worry about it mate as I know few polos all in same stutiation. cheers

  • @sonerykaya Ok, you explained me fair enough technical background. Some people already also told in this comment section, that they got the same sound. Mine engine milage is aprox 191 100km.

  • my 2000's Seat Ibiza 1.0 MPI engine got the same sound. mine has 116.383 km.

  • Hi Everybody!

Check my vid about my SEAT Cordoba with same engine sound.

There you can find in the car an 1.4 85HP VW engine.

In my car there was an engine change inside of warranty cause of this kind of noise.

But after about 20.000 km with the new engine I've heard the noise again.

This is a fucking shit construction, no more.

You can't hear this noise from any other type of car in the world.

This is the shame of the VW.

  • Hi. I have GOLF 1.4 and it sounds like that polo. It has 127000km. After a few minutes hydraulic lifters stop ticking. But it still sound like a diesel. Mechanic said that this is the sound of worn piston skirt. I apologize for my bad english. Сheers

  • oh and mine has 111 000km on it

  • does it continue to make this noise when u dip the clutch?, as in does it only make the sound wen you put it into nutral and remove your foot off the clutch?, if so, its the clutch bearing...thats wat my trusty mechanic said :), hope this helps
