Saying martial arts are about being violent is like saying that in order to be a martial artist you have to be a violent person. Violent people don't have self control just because a person use martial arts for self protection doesn't mean they are violent by nature.

@Einheri89 and since you can't concive what i mentioned about defining martial arts let me break it down for you like this. In no book no law no force says that martial arts are about violence in fact you made that up. War art clarifies a state of being self defeance is about protecting yourself not about being violent. Were did you ever get that to be a martial artist you have to be violent? Says who and by what law? Self defeance doesn't have to be violent but the option is there.
