As legendary and incredible as Shawn Lane is/was, Guthrie's phrasing and tone just takes me on a whole new journey.
Every time I hear Guthrie, my mind is blown, all over again.

@shawnlanefatty9393 yea not really, I meant hes sort of this generations fusion/shred type guy, playing wise they are pretty far apart

@shawnlanefatty9393 hes a little like shawn lane, meaning shawn is gone unfortunately but if i wanted to go see a guitarist that was slightly comparable (cause no-one really is) it would be guthrie............

people use distortion to get a heavy tone, they don't use it to sound noisy. don't confuse tone and playing - guthrie plays extremely cleanly, and seeing as you don't know what this means it means you can hear all the notes and it doesn't sound like a mess, meaning his technique is incredibly precise. distortion adds saturation, sustain and whatever else. do you think metal bands who play solos should actually play using the clean channel? clean playing means he's a competent soloist.
