The original version of the tale is even sadder...For the mermaid that is...In the end the Prince marries some other woman he thought was his "savior" (like in this movie I guess), but because of that the mermaid was doomed to die unless she killed the Prince...She refused and so perished. The prince mourned her death, but he never knew who she really was or what she sacrificed for him and all that...It is and incredibly sad tale...I love it! :D

I get it! The woman who gave the mermaid legs also said that if a person ever were to die for her the mermaid would live on forever like a dream. And this man who got stabbed probably died for her. And then the girl in the carriage can possibly be her.. idk. I especially don't know why she dissapears from everywhere... and i dont speak russian.. so... umm IDK.

@minitATugirl If someone dies for the mermaid, she lives forever. The man that the prince stabbed dies for her, so she disapeared and will liver forever and bring happiness to those that see her.

@TFWC88 The girl in the carriage is not supposed to be the mermaid. It is the same actress but she is playing two roles. At the beginning of the movie, this girl is in the carriage and a man who might be meant to be Hans Christian Anderson is telling her the story of The Little Mermaid.

I love to watch this movie over and over again! ;o; It's so beautiful!
She disappeared (died?), and the only one who seems to remember her now is the Prince, thus basically torturing him forever with the haunting memory of a girl he realized he loved that nobody else knew. Sucks to be him but I can't say I feel sorry for him for being such an idiot and breaking the mermaid's heart. :)
