  • This was actually Mickey's debut cartoon--but it wasn't the first one the world saw because it was originally made as a silent, and Walt Disney couldn't get a distributor for it. Only when he and his team got the idea to create a sound cartoon (Steamboat Willie) did he get a distributor and get it booked. Steamboat Willie, which was a parody of a live action Buster Keaton film, was an instant hit--and Disney went back and put a soundtrack on Plane Crazy, which also became a hit.
