A 5 year old gets his 2nd CI turned on. He got his 1st CI in 2001 at 9 months of age, and is experiencing stereo sound for the first time. The final part of the video shows him 2 weeks later, with both CIs on, and dad is playing guitar in the background... and he answers questions about his new "hearing."

  • does he have ear mold's with the ci?...i didnt think there were molds with a ci...j/w cuz i have ha's so i dunno lol :)

  • He was wearing earmolds to help secure his device (since he's an active kid). Now, he no longer uses them, but uses tubing called a mic lock. Earmolds are not necessary for CIs.

  • Hello Elliot,

    How are you?

My name is Christian. I am 7 years old and I live in Germany with my Mom and Dad and three brothers.

I have two cochlear implants, too just like you. That is so cool.

I watched your video with my Mom and I like it. I go to mappings here in Germany, too.

    Bye from Christian in Cologne

  • Hi, my name is Elliot and I'm 6 years old. I live in Georgia. I have three brothers! There names are Nick, Alex and Oliver. I like to jump on the trampoline and my CIs never fall off on it! Bye, Elliot

  • That is wonderful that he got bilaterals, my daughter turned 5 in Feb, she has one A.B implant and she wears a hearing aid in her other ear. My daughter just graduated from an oral ed. program, she will mainstream into a reg. kinder classroom this fall. I have to comment on his beautiful speech, you have obviously worked VERY hard with him! COngrats Elliot!

  • o ok! That makes sense, i figured it was something like that because i had never seen someone with a ci have earmolds too. i've seen the little loop thing that goes around the ear...id prolly be one of those ppl who wud have a mold if i had a ci. I do cheerleading and i flip around and flu thru the air lol. Anyways I hope elliott is enjoying both his cis and doing well with them!

  • Good job mom and dad.Happy people have happy kids. You passed your smiles down to your kids I can tell. My 3 yr old loved it. She has bilaterals.

  • No,this is a common misconception. A cochlear implant is a device under the scalp placed in a small well in the bone, and an electrode from it runs into the cochlea to fire impulses like the the hair cells would normally do. The external processor and microphone looks like a hearing aid, but it does not function like a hearing aid, and does not go into the brain at all. See medel dot com to get a better idea from manufacturers. It allows my two boys who were born deaf, to hear!

  • I love the look he gives when it is turned on...what a personality! Thanks for sharing!
