Marshall Handwired 1959 Plexi

A clip of a HW Marshall Plexi that I sold. It's boosted with a Keeley ds-1. Through A Marshall 1960 with 75s. The guitar is a Mahogany Tele with a Alnico 5 Humbucker. The live sound is ALOT tighter in the bottom end. Not as mushy sounding. You can tell when I am playing the G note muted that it is tight.
I didn't know this was going on youtube. Yes I know the playing is slop. ; )
The clip is done on the video mode of my Still camera.

People have to realise that these marshalls sound simply amazing at low volumes aswell. You "DO NOT HAVE TO CRANK A MARSHALL FOR IT TO SOUND GOOD"! Thats one place it sounds great, but just put a "high quality" distortion or vintage style TS808 in front of it with the amp volume low, about 2, and you have seriously friggin amazing tone. Attenuators are shit machines. I use my JH "full stack" in my bedroom and its holy grail at number 2. rock on! Use a little reverb too.

@PinkyWontWork Of course, you're going to lose the dynamics of a speaker pushing a lot of air, but if we could get that at home, we wouldn't need a low volume solution, would we? Even a 5 watter through an 8" speaker can be DAMN loud, but if you use a Master or even a good attenuator on those, it never sounds as good as a 50 or 100 watter does with a good attenuator. Again, we're back to big iron sound big. It's a fact that many players, myself included, had to eventually come to terms with.

@LedWhisky69 I just heard about the Aracom a couple months ago and I bought one. Excellent little unit but it's still not the same as a pure cranked tube amp. I am getting good results with it through the PT100, Marshall '78 MKII and an Elmwood Modena 60 the Elmwoods and Diezels are by far the best amps for whisper level playing and don't need it but they always sound better between 5-7. Jeff at Aracom is a good person and the packing job he does is impressive.

@PinkyWontWork That was true years ago when attenuators were junk, but no longer. The best of the high-end attenuators today preserve everything at all volumes. Check out Aracom, Faustine Phantom, and Rivera Rockcrusher, specifically. Low watt amps pale in comparison with a high watt amp and a good attenuator. Big iron sounds BIG and you can use them effectively in all situations (gig, studio, or home) when attenuated properly.

@uterallindenbaum unfortunately, in my country these things are a bit rare... people didnt play guitars in commie days because Marshalls werent imported from the western block. So only the ones who specially ordered in special shops for that. But if the SLP is a reissue, I might find it in the shop...

im visiting my brother in Munich - Germany and so I hope I could find something good there. Ive found an 1975 Les Paul Custom left handed... cant wait to give it a try when I arrive there :)

@jimmyjames77 It's not the same with an attenuator..your upper harmonics just die. Best thing to do is get a low watt amp 3-5 watts (which you're still not going to fully open up at home not for practice) with a master volume. These things just weren't designed for home playing..let alone bedroom.

Or a $3000 high end amp like a Diezel or Elmwood Modena which play great at low volumes..especially the Diezels.

@dzava The HW marshalls are house demolishers you you let them be. Get a good attenuator for bedroom levels. Problem solved and you have a great marshall.
