KEVIN: Well... You went on a shopping trip and you were on your way home when a drunk driver ran a red light and crashed into your car.
[It almost physically hurt him to lie to her, but he knew she was happy with Joe. At least that was what he thought of this Sheryll]
SHERYLL: What about the person I was talking to?
KEVIN: You were calling Joe. You told him you were on your way home.
SHERYLL: Really? Thanks a lot Kevin for being honest with me. It's been hard, but I don't want my parents to think that.
KEVIN: What does it feel like? Not remembering anything?
SHERYLL: I felt empty the first couple days.
[She remembered the first time she went home. She had felt like she was intruding into someone else's life]
SHERYLL: I even felt weird in my room. Like it wasn't mine. But my pictures were on the wall. I didn't even know if my parents really were my parents or if you guys really were my friends. But I hated being alone, so learned to trust you guys. You guys have helped a lot.
KEVIN: Really?
SHERYLL: Yeah, I get a sense of who I was before and I try to just work with that.
KEVIN: Must be hard to have to try to be yourself.
SHERYLL: A little bit.
KEVIN: You don't have to try, though. We all loved you before; it's not hard to keep loving you.
SHERYLL: Thanks.
[Joe and Nick came up. Joe had a whole armful of hotdogs]
JOE: Anyone hungry?
SHERYLL: [Laughing] Can you finish all that?
JOE: Of course not. I'm going to share.
NICK: That's not what you said earlier.
[Joe nudged Nick]
SAM: Hey! The water's great.
SARAH: Yes, and jellyfish free.
NICK: I think I'll just sit her and eat.
KEVIN: How about we all go jump into the water before we eat?
[Joe laid the food on the blanket]
JOE: Ok. Last one in is a camel.
SHERYLL: Camel?
[Joe picked up Sheryll and ran towards the water ahead of the group. They both screamed when the water hit them. Sam and Sarah weren't far behind and jumped in after them, Kevin and Nick dived in, too]
SHERYLL: The water is freezing!
[The boys came up from behind the girls and tried to scare them. Sarah was the only one who got scared and she swam after Nick as he laughed]
KEVIN: Last one to the food is going to be hungry!
[They all raced out of the water, their bodies feeling heavy. When they got back to their spot, they found their stuff was missing]
SAM: Where did the food go?
SARAH: And didn't we have more than one towel?
NICK: Man, my sunglasses are gone.
JOE: Where's Big Rob when you need him?
SHERYLL: Has this ever happened to us before?
KEVIN: [Laughing] No. Now I'm really hungry.
SARAH: Let's go to my house and cook a big lunch?
JOE: I'm in.
NICK: Ok.
[They rolled up the only towel they had and got into Kevin's car, still soaking wet]
Two weeks later
[Joe is trying to call Sheryll's new cell phone]
SHERYLL: Hey Joe!
JOE: Hi Sheryll!
SHERYLL: What's up?
JOE: I just wanted to see how you were doing.
SHERYLL: [Laughing] You just called 2 hours ago.
JOE: I know, but it feels like a long time since I've seen you.
SHERYLL: Well, you have your concerts to do, and I've got school.
[All of a sudden Sheryll's head hurt. She fell silent on the phone and Joe was calling her name. Images started flashing before her eyes. One moment she was backstage in what seemed like a concert another moment she's in front of her window talking into her phone]
JOE: Sheryll! Are you still there? Are you ok?
SHERYLL: Yeah, my head hurts a little.
JOE: What happened?
SHERYLL: I think I've gotten some of my memory back.
JOE: Really? What do you remember?
SHERYLL: I think I was at one of your concerts. There were thousands of girls and lots of bright lights.
JOE: Yes, that's one of our concerts. How did you remember it?
SHERYLL: I don't know. Can I call you back later? I think I need to lie down.
JOE: Yeah, sure. Call me when you can. And tell your parents. You might need to go to the doctor or something.
SHERYLL: Ok. Thanks.
[She hung up and laid on her bed. It was strange, sort of like déjà vu. She could even remember the feelings she had during those times: she missed Joe. She guessed she must have missed him since they were always gone]
Sheryll lay in her bed staring around the room. Pictures of her, Sam, and Sarah were everywhere. There were posters of the Jonas Brothers on her wall, which were all signed by all six of them with pictures to match. Her bags were in one corner of the room, and her mirror in the other. Joe seemed like the perfect guy to her, but something was off. She didn't know what. Was this really her life? Did she like Joe? How did they become friends? Why did Sam watch her when she was talking to Kevin? What used to make her happy? What was she like before? What made the old Sheryll want to go on a shopping trip by herself? Why did she feel like somehow, everyone was pretending around her? Was she pretending to be anything she never was? Was she sure of anything?
"There were posters of the Jonas Brothers on her wall, which were all signed by all six of them with pictures to match."
