I know this is a rubbish video, but I literally threw it together in about 20 minutes, I'd have done more of the song but I didn't have enough good quality footage, and I don't mind if no-one even watches this. I just needed to do it as a tribute to my favourite racehorse...

I'm not ashamed to say I was devastated to learn today that Denman aka 'The Tank' was retired today after the discovery of a leg injury.

Denman was a brilliant racehorse, he won a cheltenham gold cup, came second in 3 more and won two Hennessys off top weight, carrying around two stone more than the runner ups. His rivalry with Kauto Star, his stablemate has lit up NH racing over the last 5/6 seasons. He was the bravest horse I ever seen race, even in defeat he never knew when to give up.

I can't even decribe how much this horse means to me, as stupid and corny as that may sound. For me, Denman at his best would be hard for even an on-song Kauto to beat, especially around Cheltenham. He was, in my opinion, one of the greatest steeplechasers of his, or perhaps any generation.

But more than that, I will be forever grateful to this horse. It was his second Hennessy that got me into the sport, I remember it gave me chills and I knew at that moment racing was going to become my passion. And racing has given me more joy over these past two years than maybe anything else and it's mostly down to this horse (and A.P McCoy of course, but hopefully he won't retire for a while). I could go on for hours just saying how much I owe to Denman, and it may sound silly but it's the truth.

So thank you Denman, for being the most wonderful horse, and thank you to his trainer Paul Nicholls, who master minded his career so brilliantly. I'm really going to miss watching you race with your old mate Kauto. I'm glad you've retired safe and sound though and have a long and happy retirement-you deserve it and owe us nothing!

Now I'm going to have to find a new favourite horse now, but Denman will always have a special place in my heart,

  • Oh my god I've seent his before and it still makes me cry... wibbleywobbley you are a legend!

  • @wibbleywobbleydeux Only just seen it :( ChiefyRocks1 is my BFF by the way she told me about Denman and I cried. How sad am I right, I actually wrote a Denman tribute which is stuck on my wall. Its so weird to see Kauto racing and know Denman is retired cuz for as long as I watched them they were always a pair :( gonna miss Denman come the Gold Cup. Still, at least someone is kicking Long Run's butt for him :D

  • I love this horse! As a tribute to this brave and warrior horse, I've nicknamed my greyhound Dennis as Dennman.

I will miss Denman very much. I've watched the King George steeplecgase race today and there seemed to be a hollow in my heart seeing no Denman in there. I will forever cherished those moments I've seen him race. My favorite horse of all time. He just tugged all the strings in my heart. Enjoy retirement Denman, you deserve it! :)
