  • Do they have a cd out?? I love irish dancing to their music

  • @Caitlynsirisheyes Yes they do. It's the cd of this same concert. It's called "String Sisters Live".

  • OH MY GOD check out the violin at 0:52!!

  • @JackyRowe That would Annbjørg Lien's hardanger fiddle (hardingfele in Norwegian).

  • @morigue is it like a mandolin, 2 strings the same tuning, or are they all different? i'd have thought mandolinish realy, but i'm just wondering

  • No. It has 4 top strings that are bowed just like a regular fiddle and then 4-5 "sympathetic" or understrings that vibrate/drone when the top strings are played. The common tuning for a hardanger is A-D-A-E, instead of the G-D-A-E tuning of regular fiddles.

  • @NHfiddle Been nearly a year and I'm still trying fo follow along with this fiddle style...Nope, still can't do it. Still watching and listening with the utmost intensity.

  • For those of you who are interested in learning Hardanger look for Scandinavian music festivals and groups in your area. Most larger cities probably have them. My sister plays and introduced my daughter to it when she was young. She picked it up quite easily, having played violin since age 5. she loves it and is now 19.

  • I've been checking ebay now and then to find a hardanger fiddle. Every once in a while one will show up for really big money, and that's used...Imaging what a brand new one would run you, then you have to learn to play all over again. Gotta love it.

  • I'm noticing that Mairead holds her bow way above the frog. I guess its either the way she was taught or something she developed over the years, great bow control nonetheless.

  • I love this music, I just wish I could play half as good as any of them. I've tried to follow along and nope, can't do it, so I just sit back, watch and listen. Great place to be.

  • @morigue ah right!! very clever.
