@luvinbuzzin Theodore Bikel and Dave VanRonk, the folk/blues great, also had very good English performances. Finding them is a problem. With a fair amount of patience you can find VanRonk's on YouTube.

Good Morning and Happy Thanksgiving,
I did listen to the Original Cast Recording, it is good but not as powerful as Brel. Mandy Patankin might be a good voice, not sure about an old sailor.

Bowie seems to be the only one who expresse the words. Brels words just follow the tune. But Both voices are so totaly wrong for this song. It neads a drunken old sailor :) Now this is my opinion, those who state flatly that this or that way is the best have no understanding of presonal experience. In fact only those who express dead end opinons are wrong.

Gotta sample those keys

the scott walker version is also very good
This is good but the only way to really see and hear it is Jacques Brel, nothing compares.

Bowies version is god awful, but that is imho - this is the closest best to the original, unless you like that Bowie old man whine :))
