@lolocaustz @midkay @Evskin In fact, sampling refers strictly to the use of a portion of a previous audio recording. It's very clear on listening that, for "Dance Yrself Clean", LCD's James Murphy didn't just load snippets of this song in his auto-sampler and record away. The jungle-y beat and fuzzy synth bassline are easily recreated by someone with Murphy's electronic production chops. The intro to "Dance..." is an interpolation, a cover of sorts, NOT a sample.

@midkay a sample is still a sample even if you don't use the audio recording of the original. if you do use the audio recording, it's called a Master Use Sample, but if you don't, it's called an Interpolation (different type of sample), and it means you have to get permission from the original artist (not to mention pay him half of your publishing royalties). what evskin said about another version being taken down makes it seem like dude just bought the original, which is another possibility

See the thing about sampling is it means actually using part of an existing recording.. while I hear similarities here with one or two LCD songs, none of the elements are actually _the same_ as on an LCD song. Thus, no sampling. That seems to be the beauty of LCD though.. he freely takes ideas he likes, changes them up a bit and (here's the key bit) brings them together in a way that could only be described as genius.

@refo09 Im not suggesting these songs are the same.  I would agree that LCDs version is constructed better and provides for a more enjoyable listen. The question, however, was "did LCD sample this". The answer, without a shadow of a doubt, is yes. If you think tho two songs just happened to sound this similar without someone from LCD soundsystem sampling this then thats ridiculous.

Guys this really isn't that similar. lots of songs have in them full note 3rds. Plus the LCD soundsystem song develops into something far more fun and intricate than this.

@Evskin Also, when Dance Yrself Clean was released. Some versions of this song were taken offline for copyright reasons which I found interesting. Perhaps LCD tried to destroy the original :p
