Manny was the father. Humans killed his wife and child. That is why he touches the picture of baby mammoth - it reminded him his lost son. And then he compared human baby with the picture and found that the baby also kind of resembles his son - then he hugs the baby with trunk.

In 2nd part he also says that his family is the reason why he is reluctant to take Ellie his mate.

@magicMOBILEgenie No, he was the father. All the focus of that scene is on him and what he has, if you look carefully you'll see that most of his main interactions on the cave walls seperate him (in focus, at least) from his family.
