  • I was at Fl all-state as well.

He drilled us into the groungd! especially keeping us after rehearsal was supposed to be over.

    But, it was worth it.

This is by far my favorite of all the pieces.

  • Massachusetts All-State '11!

He's the most dedicated conductor I've ever worked with. Dedicated to making us the best we can be. It wasn't just another pay check to him. It was about working and doing it right. "We're only as strong as the weakest mind"

  • Actually, forced non-vibrato singing really isn't all that great for your voice, nor for your vocal development. And there is no "rule" that choirs have to sing without vibrato. That is merely a preference from director to director. Also keep in mind that this is a random camcorder recording of a choir singing on a gym floor during a Baccalaureate service. There are far better live recordings of the choir than this one.

  • Excellent rendition. Vibrato though is a pity. These will all leave the choir experience as excellent choir singers. The conductor should really be coaching the singers better in discouraging vibrato, these habits are tough to unlearn, and are picked up from other singers. One needs a good, warm, but firm conductor to insist that that vibrato is left OUT or they will be singing with vibrato all the time, for the rest of their lives.

  • @reecty01 I love that you say that! I got my undergrad at Luther College... so I hear ya! And... I'm getting my masters now at Truman State University... which is where Mark Jennings conducts. and... it seems Mark Jennings composed this. I will have to ask him about it (I didnt know he composed as well!) Thanks for acknowledging Nordic Choir!! It was a priviledge to walk through the music building and hear them rehearse every single day. WESTON NOBLE FOREVER!!!

  • I agree with haugwi01... way too much vibrato for a choral setting. This choir is amazing. world renowned. but i've heard much better. Luther Nordic Choir for example.

  • Beautiful. Too much vibrato? Not even. It is great technique-probably one of the best college choirs ever. If i wouldn't have gotten so home sick, i would have attempted to venture to St. Olaf just for the choir. What an amazing choir-their legacy-their director, love it.

  • I think it's refreshing to hear this choir open up - still well blended. Good healthy, singing - yet not strident or bordering on "wannabe" opera chorus. Just as beautiful as their usual "sound" - just a different type of beautiful. Quite powerful and moving singing.

  • Favorite Song from Fl all state 09

  • Ooh! I was in Florida All state last year! Were you here this year again with Simon Carrington?

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I was in this choir with Dr. A, and it's great to have these little memories from an incredible year.

Love all the comparisons people constantly make between these upper Midwest Lutheran college choirs. On a given day or with a certain piece you may prefer any of four or five to the others. There is typically no "better." Just enjoy the beautiful sounds they all produce!
