Testing out the newest release of Blender's matchmove build. No automatic tracking, everything's supervised. About 1.5hrs of manual tracking and I'm very-very impressed by what it can achieve compared to commercial software like Syntheyes or Boujou. Heck, why would you, blender user, spend 600 $ on Syntheyes now, or even 10k $ on Boujou!? If most of the GsoC branches are put into trunk, we will have the ultimate all-in-all package that kicks ass!

Workflow:

- Filming with Canon 500D (hooray for camera setting presets included!!)
- Manual tracking
- Lens distortion removal
- Scene reconstruction
- After Effects titles, comping

  • Nice work- But why did you track it manually? The built in trackers work great in my experience. Especially the SAD tracker.

  • @dsavix4 by the term "manually" I meant, I didn't hit detect features and detect track. All the trackers were done one by one (which ofc is pretty much the only way to go now). If you have used other matchmoving programs, you might see there is a commonly used buttons that automatically detect and track everything.

btw I didn't test the other tracking algorithm, I switched to SAD also and it did a pretty good job :)

  • @TheTiivik I think that's called "Supervised tracking". Full-on manual is where you move the markers around yourself between frames. BTW the detect features operator works pretty good if you adjust the settings a lot. (Smaller minimum distance between markers, larger amount of markers)

  • @dsavix4 that's actually written in the video if you check the explanation texts ;) But otherwise yes your're right. Next time I'll be sure to try out the detect features option.

  • "bye, syntheyes" :p

  • @drx44 someone noticed :P

  • @TheTiivik Great, I'll look forward to it.

  • @megamaa sure, I have an idea for an effect. This was just purely tracking practise

  • That looks nice, are you gonna make something even more practical out of it?
