@littleripper312 I don't think straight A's are 100% necessary. Keep working hard, and see how you do on the MCAT. Medical school admission committees look at you as a whole person, not as numbers. If you have some research experience and volunteer work on your CV, that will also be helpful. I think that medical schools in general are moving away from applicants who are book-smart, but dumb about life. Good luck!

@sleepytimedoc I am working on going to med school as well however I decided late in my undergrad so I only have a 3.0 after 2 years. I will definately be getting A's this semester however I will only be able to raise my GPA so much in 2 more years of school. Do you think the best option would be to do graduate school after my degree? I'm not sure what the typical route is for someone in my position.
-
@sleepytimedoc You started at 34? Wow! I'm only 22 so it looks I have time to work with
-
@SuperWarking medical school was fun! it was a second career for me, and i started at age 34. no regrets!
-
@sleepytimedoc Really? How was MD school? Working on getting in, however, not sure what I want to practice for sure yet. I also agree with your comment with Anethesiologists being more concerned with safety than the money they will get. Honestly, I view yall as the most important person in the OR by far. Yes the surgeon fixes, however, yall essentially control the outcome. Had 6 surgeries and everytime Anethesia did their thing to ensure I woke up so thanks for what you do! :)

@SuperWarking yes, i do practice anesthesiology. my pet peeve is surgeons and administrators who just want to push patients through the "machine"...anesthesiologists and anesthetists are often the ONLY patient advocates who seem concerned with patient safefy, and it is truly frightening to witness! i also take issue with the use of the term "customer" for "patient"...it completely negates the unique physician-patient relationship.
-
@mphello I like your way of thinking! You practice? If so, no joke man I really want you as my doc cause seems you actually are using that crazy thing called logic!
-
@mphello True, However, I'm sure the ones who are not stupid probably won't attempt to do surgery on themselves
-
@mphello LOL. i have heard of a guy who performed a liver resection on himself with no anesthesia, using a kitchen knife, and he actually did a pretty good job!

I know all medical people hate me for saying this, but I would legalize ALL drugs and ALL medical equipment and technology to be used by ANYONE ON ANYONE.
People should have the libertarian right to perform surgery on themselves if they want. If they are stupid, they die. Just let the stupid ones die. This will VASTLY reduce the world overpopulation and hence the work load to medical personnel in particular.
It's not a stretch. Surgeons will say anything to get their cases done. And when confronted with the patient's medical problems, the typical response is either "It's a short case" and "i wont lose much blood". And that's how you know you are about to embark on an 10 hr bloodbath.

i wanna come and give anesthesia in the UK!!! i switched from surgery to anesthesia, and it was the BEST move i ever made! anesthesiologists make it possible for surgeons to operate, yet we have to put up with their superiority complexes and nasty attitudes! unfortunately, the above-mentioned stereotype of lazy or unprofessional anesthesia providers is a reality, but there are just as many lazy and unprofessional surgeons. quit taking yourself so seriously, man! life is WAY too short!!!! :-)
