Horses are not people.

I have a lovely mare. I sometimes pull her blanket up over her shoulders which gives her a wedgiet. One day in her paddock, sans halter, i pull her blandet in place and she snaked around and bit the crap out of my arm. Then she galloped around the paddock because she did not want to now suffer any consequences. I yelled a bit and threw something at her. I put her in her stall so she could think about it. as it turned out, they forgot to feed dinner that night, she had a lot of time to think.

Thanks for the reminder that we always need to be aware. It is easy to fall into a routine and become too comfortable. Safety first!

Love the video. I hear the same stuff all the time. "I can't believe he kicked me"

Went to spend time with my boyfriends 2 nights ago and had two pears in my pocket. My bigboy loves pears like a junkie to crack. I was patting him when he swung and wacked me hard on the nose, i was mildy concussed and in shock so dropping my big girl pants i retreated slowly to the hay shed. i shut the door so i could hyperventilate and cry a bit(it hurt). I sucked it up and went out (WITHOUT THE PEARS) and continued our time together and LEARNT!

I certainly don't wanna criticize the lady who got kicked, but she answered the question about how it happened without even knowing it.... "well, i was feeding and i wasn't paying attention". If i've learned anything, i have definitely learned that no matter how well you know your horse you can't ever NOT pay attention. Not if you want to keep all your parts intact :)

LOL,LOL,LOL.............AHhhhh
h thank you for your video...soooo many people fail to take precautions and treat horses like horses. -
I cant imagine...yikes. Dont you think that could have been prevented if she would have been the boss? What should have she have done to prevent this?
OK people, if you read the comments you know why I don't respond to questions or people. To be clear, I don't give a crap about what you think, heard or believe. I am not here to convince, argue, debate or encourage you. I put info out, take it or leave it and save the "I am right" for your fellow barn witches. I don't want to hear it. I should have blocked her when she started whining about how she can't find the link, but no I had to try and get her to think. I failed.

I'm interested about why helmet's are bad, I hope you make a vid about it. I couldn't find anything about it on the website, maybe if you had a search browser I could.

@pennamb : Maybe if you read the description, like I say in my videos, you know I try and put links to things I talk about. Maybe if you looked you would have found the link.

@horseawareness Woops my bad. I think it's interesting, but it also suggests gloves, chaps, and boots are unnecesary as well. I wear a helmet and I don't expect any less of a risk because so, I just value my brain cells more than my bones.

@pennamb : If you depend on other things to protect or make you FEEL safe around a horse & cheat yourself of knowledge, experience &understanding of horses, then you miss the boat.Nothing helps you & your horse more than understanding, not trainers, not gear, not luck, true understanding compounds everything you do with a horse and NOTHING beats it. So you keep thinking the brain bucket will help you. Ask Christopher Reeves how his helmet saved him? Bet he wishes his horsemanship was better.

@horseawareness I agree that people can't substitute safety articles for understanding, I'm just saying even the best of horseman fall off sometimes and there's nothing wrong with extra protection, just like there's nothing wrong with giving your horse an immunity boost. I'm not saying helmets save lives, I'm saying in the case of a fall, they COULD mean the difference between life and death. Reeves' case is not applicable to all rider falls, he was eventing& might not have learned how to fall.

@pennamb : You are so right! You should do training or have your own site.
