Olympic Games on July 27, 1996 in Atlanta, Ga., USA, Canadian sprinter Donovan Bailey won the 100-m dash in 9.84 sec to earn the appellation "the world's fastest man."

the thing is, his starts were usually amazing. After all, he is the co WR holder in the 50m dash (5.56), and has a respectable PB of 6.51 in the 60m. I can only imagine what his time could have been with an amazing start

Yes, that is correct the reason why he only got 9.84 is because his start was not as good as most of the other people in the race. His start was actually a bit bad, but about 30 metres from the finish line he was going like a rocket. Usain Bolts top speed was 23.5 mph.

Bolt's average speed was 23.5 mph his top speed was actually the fastest of all time as his 50-50m splits indicate he acheived a top speed of 27.28 mph
