  • @TehCheese Cool. The guy should have something dedicated to him in Dublin. He's probably one of , if not THE, best actors to come out of Ireland.

  • @Alan1701b I think that was intentional. He was a Chief Petty Officer, meaning he didn't go to the academy. He was an enlisted man, so appealed to those of us who were less refined than say Wesley Crusher ;)

  • want so bad to find the instrumental in the background!!

  • He was probably on the Jeffrey when he sang this.

  • I have found that chief O'Brian is the most respected and believeble chareters in this serires not only because my family is from Ireland but because he is more capable than anyone else through hard work, faith and dedication.

  • @ntcrwler

Extremaly powerful and well written and well acted episode :)

  • @KittyStarlight and here I was thinking Wesley was actually supposed to be torn apart by Klingons

  • To the person who complained about the singing: They weren't supposed to be doing excellent singing, only putting their hearts in it. They were supposed to be starfleet officers, not folk singers.

I think this is one of the half-dozen or so most touching versions I've ever heard. Funny, I've never even *thought* about whether they *sang* particularly well or not...so their *acting* must've been fairly decent. (Or, as my college theater teacher used to say, "Watch my face, I'm dancing." ^_^)

  • @paroleej:

    "Vey is mir"?

Good heavens. Jewish AND Irish AND a Star Trek fan? ^___^

    Same here. ^_^

(Admittedly I'm not *very* Jewish, except for my ancestry on my father's side being mostly Jewish, and I probably wouldn't know about "vey is mir" if it weren't for a Jewish friend online. But...still.)

Kitty (who has a mix of many ancestries...including but not limited to Jewish, German, English, Irish, Scottish, etc.) (they can all fight with each other ^_~).

  • @piratebri

Wesley Crusher wasn't supposed to be "refined", he was supposed to be young and innocent.

    (I get your point, though.)

  • A powerful, touching scene
