However, it appears that some form of beer has been around even longer, as long ago as 9500 BC and has even been credited with being "instrumental in the formation of civilisations [sic]" (Wikipedia). In any case, the workers building the pyramids had rations of beer three times a day. Beer and bread were the two staples of the Egyptian diet.
