Pinter himself would have laughed louder than any of us. But to be serious (for a bit longer) this reveals starkly the terrifying ignorance of newscasters who, because they daily make pronouncements on the world scene, are generally given much too much respect (in my view). In Canada one or two suffer from a genuine “folie de grandeur," presumably because they occasionally interview famous people.
