A Kyoto baker making the original Japanese fortune cookies by hand, near the Fushimi Inari shrine, easily accessible by public transportation. They are called tsujiura sembei, or suzu sembei.
Part of research done for "The Fortune Cookie Chronicles" (fortunecookiechronicles.com) by Jennifer 8. Lee. The fortunes are made with miso and sesame, which is why they are brown.
