We visit the abandoned Old Stone Church, on the Wachusett Resovoir, West Boylston, Massachusetts.
When three towns lost land to create this man-made drinking water supply, a lot of buildings, roads, and nature, were removed to make way for it. One building survived the wrecking ball, and that was the Old Stone Church, abandoned when the project began.
The abandoned building is maintained by the DCR (Massachusetts Department of Conservation, and Recreation), which allows people to go inside, and have a look.
First thing you'll see is, there's nothing really left, and the lower level was removed, and filled in with dirt, and newer construction from 1977 is prevelent (steel beams, and concrete blocks), to stablize the hollowed-out structure. The concrete block walls reinforce the ones that fell in during restoration (and rebuilt seamlessly), and a historically-accurate replacement roof put on. I did not know this while recording inside, since I didn't read the sign out front before entering. After watching this video, I realized how odd the narration was, so I annotated this fact.

  • I fed the geese down on the resevoir for pretty much my entire childhood and it never got polluted. What moron put up that "DO NOT FEED THE WATER FOWL THEY CONTRIBUTE POLLUTANTS TO THE RESEVOIR" sign? If that's the case, then fish contribute pollutants to the water too.

  • @Aucoin79

They're worried about the "Domino Effect", where one feeds, another one will follow, as well as the Geese themselves.

You were lucky. The norm didn't happen, so you got away with it. :)

  • These, in my opinion, are the true meat and potatoes of your channel: tours of roadside attractions, lesser-known locales and interesting historical tidbits regarding the central region of Massachusetts. Thanks for the highly-informative, entertaining tours of the areas most familiar to you!

  • @QuietSundayLibrary

    Glad you enjoyed.

I've been meaning to get this several other times, but either didn't have time, or plain forgot.

  • @georgef551 quabbin was made the same way. inside of old builds are interesting. cleaning it makes exploring easier. looks like a nice former bell tower.

  • @Balarick

Could've been nice to keep at least some of the old archetecture. I guess it would be costly to maintain.
