Hello I would really like to teach English in Korea, I have a University Degree but absolutely no teaching experience. I am confused as to which course I should take, how many hours, on line course, in the class room? As I have no experience and would like to gain some confidence I feel that a course which at least involves some class room work and maybe some online work may be a good option? There does not seem to be any set guide lines. Have you got any advice for me, thanks Ollie (UK)

Research, right?

You must be western Canadian. I learned when I moved here that people say "...right?" as a confirmation at the end of a sentence very often. People can come to a country without researching if they are flexible people, but otherwise, be prepared to suffer!

I teach English abroad and have been at it since 2001. I have two YouTube channels and also do Dailymotion. Most of my experiences have been negative. A TEFL certification is not necessary, I have found. Try to talk to former employees. I am a consultant for people who wish to expatriate, change careers, etc. and they often do not want to hear the cold, hard facts I put forth. I like your advice about reaching out to former employees!

One of the best TEFL certification schools is International TEFL Academy, they train nearly 1,000 students a year to be professional English teachers and help graduates find jobs in Asia, Europe, Latin America and Middle East.

If you're going to come here, do your research..and make sure you research. And another thing, you're going to want to do some research before you come here, so make sure you research your options, because if you don't do resarch it would be bad not to research, so remember to research.

And one more thing, if I hear the word 'research' one more time, i'm liable to throttle someone..
If you read the contract and decide not to take job. You can just turn down the offer and apply for a different job posting? Im a little confused about how that works after they give you the contract.

@AshleyTori Yeah they generally think you'll sign the contract once they give it to you, but if you really don't want it, you don't have to. In most cases you should be able to get a sample copy of the contract to review before you get the official one to sign. That way you can know before you get too far into the process...

These are just good advice in general, whatever you do in life. Are there really people who sign contracts without reading them on things that are as big of a deal as living in a different country for as long as a whole year? It almost sounds like you're kidding. More often than not I get the feeling that a lot of Americans don't take things as seriously as they should. I like adventures but not everything should be for shits and giggles.

what about whether the school provides a living environment or not? and whether it is a shared space or individual?
