D is using all 4 gears (where the overdrive gear is the 4th gear)

3 means it will only use the first three gears and will not shift into the fourth.

Hey man I was wondering what does the dash lights look at night? Do the meters light up white? I know it's a strange question but man the night view is really important to me too lol and I'm looking at buying a 2009 Corolla LE. @shawtiee1085 isn't like the gears d3, 2, or L used for like going up and downhills? so that when going downhill you won't have to use your brakes as much and the engine will just slow the car down and when going uphill it will help you control your speed better so that you won't have to keep on pressing on the gas pedal harder? if you wanna pass someone just press the pedal further down in D4

Please help-.. I just got my Corolla, I used to drive an old old camry before that didn't have "3". so I had no idea what it meant and it was written as 3-D so I thought it was equivalent to D since it's on the same row, u move to the left it's 3. I just found out there is a difference when I move down and to the left instead of just down, I don't remember if I have been driving in 3 or D but I feel so bad and guilty! bc I might have been driving in "3" on the freeway. could that ruin my car?
