A skills development session with a 8 year old nonverbal autistic child. This child has difficulties in following simple instructions and basic skills like imitation. The principles of Applied Behavior Analysis has been used to teach him these skills.
around his interests, you begin to help develop Meaningful engagement; that is, meaningful back and forth emotional signaling around his interests; By following his lead and by beginning to attempt to understand what we call underlying sensory motor planning strengths and challenges (under-reactive or over reactive touch, sound, etc) in an empathic and integrated manner, you would help co-construct the foundations of true healthy autonomy (and not as shown here, Robotic compliant behaviors)!

With all due respect you are not engaging this child one iota. By using ABA discrete trial methods you are entirely undermining this child's natural affect or intent; including his greater and natural emotional intelligence. This is clearly and unequivocally not Developmental. You are not taking into consideration what we developmental interventionists call his natural intent or affect and his affect sensory motor planning differences. By following the child's natural lead and engaging him

your all speaking to him at one time and you continue to try and explain what to do as he keeps making the same mistake when hand over hand should have been used quicker to allow errorless learning especially as you use hand over hand in another instance, not the best conducted session but i hope the young boy makes progress
