Tonya Stalnaker-Tiggett 2011 Visionary Finalist

Early in her life, Tonya had a personal conviction that improving communication skills in Spanish and knowledge of the culture were going to be critical in the United States for decades to come. She also believed that being bilingual or multi-lingual was the wave of the future for domestic and international business. Her vision to change people's communication ability in Spanish, and enhance their lives through this process came to fruition when she formed Speak Our Language in 2003.

Cultural and socio-linguistic changes that she observed in Central Ohio inspired her to design language programs that would immerse participants in the entire experience that learning to speak a second language requires -- the sounds, the smells, the culture, the people, and the language component itself. Tonya's company is the only language company in Central Ohio (and to her knowledge nationally) that truly expands the language learning experience into the streets of the community and makes it a living, hands-on, active experience.
