The history of Bassett Planetarium, built inside of Morgan Hall, Amherst's first library, is a story of the Cold War, the Space Race and the generosity of Preston Rogers Bassett '13. The planetarium's director, Steve Sauter, tells the story.

  • Seeing a gamelan orchestra perform in this space, with stars spinning above, was an unforgettable experience. The only time something on my top 10 best planetarium list and top 10 concert list has overlapped.

  • the greatest part of bassett is the chalk board that says where anthro is. i swear it never changed in my four years there.
