This is me fumbling with a guitar and experimenting with the videocam again.
The song has been kept alive by various folkies over the decades, and it enjoys a regular outing in folk clubs. This is a rehearsal before presenting it at The City Folk Club in Chichester. Join in!
My lyrics ( a bit 'Spinners-ish') do not precisely match the earliest-known version that was collected from Richard Maitland, who learned it on board the 'General Knox' around 1885. Mr. Maitland had at least one additional verse, but I think this'll do for now!

  • @nolicnotrut Your Welcome (:

  • Sing and perform what you like, Raymond. I think we are in agreement, never otherwise.

Your channel is a brave and creditable enterprise and, for me, a valued resource.

This is all 'heritage' material. it belongs to no one person; it belongs to us all!

    You're a good man.

  • There are quite a lot of songs on your channel that I haven't sung - yet. But I enjoy listening to different people's interpretations of the same songs. What I don't like is when people say I shouldn't sing certain songs because somebody else does them so much better. It goes against the whole point of folk music.

  • Of course it's one you do, Raymond. Is there anything in my limited repertoire that you haven't already covered?!Whatever, are we possessive?

    Many thanks for the comment.

It's good to be in cyber-touch.

  • Great song. This is one I do too. Hope the performance went well.
