Unfortunately, you'll find racists in both Democratic and Republican parties. It is way too deep-seated in the US. I was really hoping with Obama's election, people might finally grow up, but it seems to have gotten worse.

I wasn't aware of the "ho" reference to Mahlia Obama, and am horrified, but all too aware (as an old lady) that there is a lot of ignorance, hatred, and bigotry out there. I like that you say there is less, now - and that is my opinion, as well. I don't go looking for it, but counter it when it is in my face. I love everything Charles de Lint writes.
