Stuart Browning highlights the plight of an Ontario man with a cancerous brain tumor who crossed the border to the U.S. to get the medical care that is rationed in his home country.
Free health care certainly is excellent for those who can not afford medical aid. And that is fine. But to out-law personally paying for health care is foolish. What benefit DO they get from it? They pay more, and the people they need and represent wait longer. What is the point? As "dmf41" said, allowing people to pay would shorten the waiting time, potentially saving lives.
WIth private opportunites, the rich pay for faster care FREEING up the queue for socialized care. Everyone does better, but the resentment of the poor for the rich who can pay out of pocket trumps medical well-being. And the politicians here have always taken advantage of it.
I went to doctor because I was having headaches, doctor sends me to ct scan.I waited 3 weeks. There were unclear spot and the doctor send me to mri and I waited under a week for that. I was there yesterday. Oh and I payed for all this 27 €. I live in Finland :)
this is a great point and economics has proven that it should happen this way, I didn't know they couldn't sell across state lines really interesting thanks!
@hoshnasi Really? Explain how it is that i live in a glass house? All i did, was tell the truth. United States did not enter ww2 till well after the fact. And who cares, who bilt the planes, or made the guns, or the bullets. All the your proving is that Americans get rich off other peoples tragedy!
Its really to bad that Americans don't realize, that they look like greedy pigs in the eyes of the rest of the world. All i have to say, is you better start learning Cineese!
@darrenhol Your grandfather flew AMERICAN aircraft built by AMERICAN women. Since he was gunner he fired AMERICAN bullets at his target, most likely through an AMERICAN BFG .50... Just like most of the Allies used AMERICAN supplies during the war.
You're a proud Canadian and that is great. I think your country is also great (in its own ways). However, you're standing in a glass house throwing stones.
@GeneralHasslehoff There is a non-"government take over" option. Allow medical companies to sell insurance plans across state lines. Currently, this is prevented by the US government. By opening this up many companies can compete and if understand economics quality of care will rise as cost decrease :)
