It is most definitely not only cosmetically done. Take the Australian Shepherd for instance, they dock the tails on them because they are close workers, grip alot, and they work mostly on cattle, if they had a long tail it would have a huge chance of getting stepped on, broken, and would have to be amputated.

They've done studies with Boxers (I think it was in Britain) where the dogs were crossbred with Corgis. Within three or four generations they'd come up with Boxers which had no need to be docked and were winning in conformation rings. If the purebred dog world would relax its standards a little we could have tailless working dogs with no docking.

I agree absolutely with the video! And, IMHO, it's not a TRUE World competition if the best are not allowed to compete. Right???

hvordan har du det?

Ah too bad you can't compete, I like the look of docked tails and if done when they are a few days old it is similar to what we do to poor human boy babies!

That's right.
lokaggwow - Boxers don't have a natural bobtail idiot.

thanks! by the way this laws are really unfair.. I am training my BC too... let´s see next year.
gez you guys really are knobs. Docked tails aren't natural (in most cases) and i doubt that it's nice for the dog to have its tail cut off. Stop cutting the tails of your dogs and you're allowed to compete, easy as that
If it's natural (like boxers) then they should be allowed to compete.

None of us want to cut de tails, but in 1999 we couldnot buy a poodle with a tail. It is a very good law to forbid this. But you can not punnish the dogs from the early days.

Oh please, docking tails is almost entirely for cosmetic purposes only! Only a tiny minority of routinely cropped puppies become working dogs. Most are just regular pets who use their tails to communicate, and if a lab doesn't need to have his tail cut off to prevent injuries, then why would a cockerspaniel... The rules (that have been around for 7 yrs now) are the only way to stop docking. If you can't take part in any event with a docked dog, you might think again before buying it.

I said it before. I am against docking of tails, not against dogs who have their tail docked. If you have a dog, that was born before docking was forbidden, you can not take away the sport you are playing.
My dog was born and docked in 1999 and docking in Norway is forbidden since 2000.
