On the road to Macmasters beach is a funky little general store, the only shop for miles around.

Everyone drops in their for milk, the paper, and good bread. It's run by Nina Angelo, famous for her passion, her warmth, and her strange promotional ideas, like her optimism spray.

In spite of all this creativity I heard the shop was in trouble, partly because times are tough , as we all know, but also because of some bad luck she'd had .

So i went by with the idea of making a video as a surprise Xmas present for Nina and the shop, hoping it might bring some attention. Nina was indeed great talent for my camera though, arguably, the parrot stole the show.

The clip worked, sort of. A city newspaper ran a story on the shop and the curious came. As for Nina, she was gobsmacked by this strange present, and of course grateful

. I assured her that I'd done it for love of small funky shops, not for money. It's part of a series of videos I'm doing about this area, the beautiful Central Coast.

Four months have now passed and I've been consumed by another passion, Electric bikes, the only sensible sort of bike in this hilly area.

But yesterday I thought, it's time to go back and see how Nina's doing. I had another motive as well. I've recently mastered a professional editing system and now I cringe to see how crude my early Youtube clips now look.

I plan to remake them where possible and justify a second look by you, by adding new material.

Hence my rolling up yesterday on the E Bike to do; Nina's little shop, The Sequel. Note that Nina says she's on Facebook and so you can get in touch if you want to. So am I, for that matter, though I don't know how it works

In the meantime, Go small businesses! Mike Rubbo

  • Hi Mike:

    So the shop survived?

  • Indeed it has! mike

  • Hi Wyllieohagan, Thanks for the nice comment . As you can see I'm having so much more fun now that I've mastered Final Cut Express and can put up decently edited pieces. Now, the challenges is to find what combination of setting makes for the best upload. Any tips? I'd love better quality . Mike

  • I have a house like 5 minutes from that shop! I love it! I'm just wondering is it still there? I was under the impression last time I was there it was closed? Hope I'm wrong!!!!

  • It's not there anymore she shut down and sold it

  • Hi Mike - great to see this video of such a unique little shop in MacMasters Beach. Shops like this are so rare in Australia... and it's great to see you and the local community supporting a small business like this. ... I do hope we can find a way to recession proof these little gems.

  • Good to hear the news on Nina.

    Those ducks are simply hilarious.

Hope all's well with you and yours.
