The first Randoli Perahera of the Kandy Esala Festival parades the streets, It was organized on a grand scale.
Hundreds of thousands of persons including foreigners thronged the Kandy City to view the first Randoli Perahera. It commenced from the Sri Dalada Maligawa and wended its way through D.S. Senanayake Veediya, Temple Road, Deva Veediya and Colombo Street and returned to the Maligawa. It was the Millangoda tusker who carried the casket of the Dalada Maligawa with sacred ornaments of the four Maha Devales.
Meanwhile, the fire walking ceremony of the Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devale is being held on a grand scale. Thousands of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim devotees are in Kataragama to view the Perahera. The final Kataragama Randoli Maha Perahera will be held on Wednesday. The festival will draw to a close with the water cutting ceremony in the Menik Ganga on the following day.
