Guys guys, I think we're missing what the... uh marine/army(?) is doing here. They don't want to actually kill Spencer themselves since they think he's too douchy to just have a regular execution so they just send him to a highly irradiated place where he can attach his arm himself, loose consciousness and hopefully either the enemy will kill him or the radiation will after they get what they want from him.

But yeah, I was wondering why they just didn't attach the arm to him before the mission started. Is there a reason? The only one I can think of is to get you used to the shooting mechanics before they start the arm mechanics. But story wise there's nothing.
