Justice Tom Berger of the Berger Inquiry (1970) is an icon in northern Canada because he listened to the First Nations people living along the Mackenzie Valley and when they said they didn't want to consider a pipeline through their territory until their land claims were settled that's what he recommended. Despite big oil's threat that we'd soon 'freeze in the dark' if their project didn't go ahead he put a stop to it.

An episode of the CBC series The Nature of Things with David Suzuki, "Ghosts of Futures Past" travels with Judge Berger back to some of the communities where he held his famous hearings. Three of the four peoples along the Mackenzie River have settled their land claims. They are considering big oil's new $16 billion pipeline project. Will they support it this time around?

  • CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME IF AND WHERE I CAN GET THE FULL MOVIE???

  • @AKrunic3 Hi, I've sent a message to The Nature of Things at CBC asking them if there are any libraries where people can see past episodes of the series. I'll let you know if and when they have an answer for me. It's a shame that so much good material paid for by taxpayers is so hard to get to see. Thanks for your interest. Geoff Bowie

  • See Thomas Berger's Freedom Not License. Ongoing development in the North coincides with a sweep of abuse by Alberta Children's Services against First Nations children focused on terrorizing children by Multi-Disciplinary teams. Removal of civil rights including health care, religious practice and educational decision by Cross Ministry teams is a political hostage taking of children which is preceded by Alberta's history of violence to FN Children.( Residential School/ 60s Scoop/ Systemic Abuse

I was telling a girlfriend a bout my dad the other night. I know her well enough.

Anyway, my mom and dad are taking me for dinner tonight for my birthday.

I sent the video to my dad the other day. He loved it.

He HAS an ego, but, he's one of the good guys.

    David Berger
