Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler shows the basic principle of cinema: It creates Hypnosis. The protagonist is hypnotised but also the spectator. Film creates a state of concioussness between hypnosis and dream. And this film shows that.

I've seen 'The Testament Of Dr Mabuse' and 'M' but I haven't yet gotten to this one.
Thanks for the review, I'm really getting into
the German Expressionist film from the
1920s-1930s

well, the original version might have been longer than 5 hours, but the original version was cut into 2 movies, this one: Der Spieler(the gambler), and the second one: Das Testament des Mabuse(testament of mabuse)
as for the gambler, i dont know, yet the 2nd movie is 303 minutes long, i saw it last summer in an outdoor festival in 3 parts. its truly a masterpiece, but watching it, is work.

Oops, I made a mistake.
The Kino version is complete.
Sorry...

The Kino version is HEAVILY cut. The real version is more than 5 hours long.
Actually, "Nanook of the North" was NOT the first documentary film.
By the way, "Les Vampires" is 6 hours long.
You seem like a very nice guy, but I've gotta tell you, that was one of the most tedious, repetetive and terrible excuses for a film review I've ever witnessed. Do you actually understand anything about film at all? There's no depth to your review, all you can say is that it's a "great film", and so and so is a "great" actor, but you don't say for what reasons. Surely you've got more to say after sitting through 4 and a half hours? Have you really posted 1000 more of your torturous reviews!?!?!
