I've been playing violin for less than a month and thanks to this video i can do vibrato .
I started freaking out with happiness! XD

@JaredChacon Basically the shoulder rest helps the feeling of security. Often is a players feels that the violin is going to slip out from under the chin, then they will squeeze or grip harder with the left hand. It's the squeezing that will then prevent the vibrato from developing. I have professional colleagues who do not use a shoulder rest and have gorgeous vibratos. It just depends on how comfortable you are without one. Great question, Beth at Violin Lab

@AmberLeeena That's what she said.
But seriously though, I love violin. Best instrument in the world in my eyes.

I dont know why but this woman makes me laugh, is the way she talks I dont know XD XD XD

I have to say only: WOW.
I try learning Vibrato really hard, for a few month and it will not work. I see this Video one Time and understand what i do wrong quickly.
My Mistakes: I support the Violin with my left Hand and dont move like a Ball, jumping back from Wall. Sometimes you can find the Examples, they hit!
Thank you a lot for this! For me its a jump to the next "Violinuniverse"!!!

you were so good when you played

Hi! You're an amazing teacher and player. All your videos are really interesting and good. I want to ask you if it is difficult to do vibrato when you are playing without a shoulder rest and the strings are too high. Thanks a lot!

@iloverock221 Great! Now the missed notes will sound less obnoxious. LOL NO one learns to fiddle without hitting 1000s of clunkers. And they are not fun to listen to. But you will do great. Practice and you will you have something no one can ever take away from you and no one can go out and buy. This lady has some real good advice.

Your videos are really really instructive, thanks alot! Now I got a lots of work to do...

@iloverock221 did you learn from just this video or what?
Go to my channel and watch the "Violin Vibrato: Slo Motion dos and dont's" video. I think that will answer your question.

I can't seem to have that gap in the V of my hand when I reach to do vibrato on the G string. It's very hard. My elbow jets out from tension when I do try to make a gap at the V part of my hand. Do you have any suggestions on hand positioning to reduce tension while G vibrating ?
AmberLeeena 2 months ago
@AmberLeeena Definitely you don't want a big gap when playing on the G string. I will surely put too much strain in the wrist. All you need is enough clearance so the hand can move. THat clearance is only a sliver of space...the width of a piece of paper is all.

What should i do when i am shaking my hand with my finger on the string, if my finger is sliding up and down the string? Also, will the fast hand shaking movement come with just practice? (sigh)

@mennonite12 Yes, it will come with a lot of practice. Vibrato is one of those techniques that takes a lot of incubation time. Most people either don't practice it consistently enough to affect change and build skill. Are your fingers sliding on the string accidentally? Have you seen the slow motion vibrato video yet? It's on my channel. It may give you a closer look.
