@WinterXL We do get that. It's part of American history for everyone else as well. The thing is, you can't really joke around about it like this when you get to the level of governor, or presidential nominee .... That's when the independent spirit starts sounding like lunacy.

I don't think some people quite understand the strong sense of identity that Texans have. We take a Texas history class before we take US History (at least when I was in school). Talk of secession isn't terribly uncommon, but it's generally not meant seriously (outside of fringe groups)... it's more an expression of the independent Texan spirit and sense of identity.

@HiRoader11 You believe S.S. is solvent and ISN'T a Ponzi scheme? Show me. FEMA's a budget line item entity, not based on I.O.U.'s. ANY program should provide EQUAL treatment to those who fund it and it serves. The 'Young Turks', yes there's a straight, unbiased source. Visit the Texas Ethics Commission website for the TRUTH. I enjoyed the Y.T.'s expose' on Obama's campaign funding, particularly his Senate run and Geithner's, Gault's, Rangel's, Daschle's, Kirk's and Solis's tax evasion.

Why would Texas contribute to the federal government.., or expect any federal funding... Perry supporters shoulds rehash the (young turks) financial breakdowns of his campaign donors again.., They'll realize Perry is smoke & mirrors...pay-to-play..

@karengreen83 Perry REPRESENTS the people of Texas and is responsible to do what's in their best interests. That doesn't mean he can't have personal beliefs/opinions. Perry, like millions of others, believe the stimuless was a huge waste of money that put us deeper into debt. Texas IS a state, Perry never said he wanted to secede and as long as Texas sends money to the Fed. ($1. for every .80 they get back) they deserve the same benefits as any other state. Do you have a problem with that?

@mks281 Extract Tx's millions of poor/uneducated non-English speaking immigrants and their children, you get a different picture. Hispanics have the lowest graduation and highest dropout rates - everywhere. It's easy to be ranked high when you're a Vt., N.H., Mass or Conn. with white, college educated populations. Is it Perry's fault millions of illegals have come into the state? U.S. news/EDUCATION ranks Texas high schools 14th. NCES rates Tx 25th dropout, 35th grad. Is your data old?
