In the SHORT term, that's correct (we would only benefit by 2018 or so), but why completely IGNORE any solution that would only benefit the long-term? Imagine if we'd voted to drill in '98! We should invest in ALL solutions, short-term/long-term. Drilling offshore will save us literally billions of dollars come 2018. This is a matter of understanding the issue vs not understanding. Alaskans understand...every governor, senator, & representative has supported ANWR drilling over the past 25 yrs.

Sadly, Republicans want to vote on an energy bill that doesn't provide "Lower Gas Prices". Offshore drilling has no effect on gas prices in the short term. It is not a solution. The reason Republicans want offshore drilling is because their campaigns are funded by big oil!
