There was a big fire Thursday at an oil refinery in Billings, MT.

  • Thanks for the info.

  • Those unmanned master streams are inplace turrets the plant has in place. Employees are trained to turn those on to cool surrounding tanks etc, until FD gets to the scene

  • In this case, the product burning was contained. All tanks in a refinery have a containment around them. The fire responders are trained to contain the fire and take defensive actions. The tank was lost and there obviously is no need to risk anyone going in. The best thing to do in a situation like this, is let the product burn away, and clean up any left over residue.

  • You see an unmanned master stream because the fire department knows its not safe to have men that close?

  • How could the highway still be open that close?
