Read this after watching the video!

This video was done as a student project for the Valencia Community College's Intro to Digital Media course.

We had about 40 minutes to come up with some sort of short (around 30 second) video idea. We [Angela and I] spent about 15 minutes discussing it and decided to make an Apple Switch-like ad. We spent 15 minutes filming various lines and the like to use, however the camera - which was school equipment - didn't record. Thus we lost all that data.

So I popped out my camera (a Canon ZR850) and spent the remaining 10 minutes re-setting up (in a new location as the one we were in had people constantly opening and closing the door in the room) and filmed a few quick lines. The result is that we were 11 seconds short in footage. Thus the reason that the video is only 24 seconds long versus 35.

We then had to learn iMovie '08 and edit the video in that within an hour. We (by "we" I mean I) did that, edited the movie and had it looking great, but after exporting we ran into two problems:

a) the video wasn't a 3:2 aspect ratio and was instead 12:9 (stretched).

b) the background music was very loud versus how it sounded in iMovie.

These two flaws have made me decide to re-edit the video in Final Cut Express 4. Here's the re-edited and final version of the video.

  • I'm an audio engineer using a PC-based system. My specific system is way, way quieter than a mac because you can spec them to be quiet - passive cooled graphics cards, acoustically dampened cases, after-market fans and CPU coolers. You can buy pre-built systems spec'd like this for cheap as well. Just saying, not all PCs sound like a jet taking off, other audio engineers have come in my studio and gone "What? That thing's ON right now?" and it cost £1500 less than a mac pro of same spec.

  • Great arguments, not. Also your hair is like a pendulum behind your head its rather distracting.

  • wow, i read the description.. making this must've been pretty frustrating for you!

  • You should do a voice over in a studio. The sound quality is important to make your video look professional.

  • well of course...thats why iMovie comes with a mac and final cut doesn't! hah

  • got hd final cut use my hd cam full 1080p

    reel cool

  • I get the sense a couple of disgruntled PC users have stopped by simply to rate this video...just a hunch! Seems kind of strange on a site where people do so much...ummm...VIDEO!

    Oh well! Can't please everybody!

  • Yea.... to me iMovie died since when version 08 came out. It now reminds me of.... dare I say it..... Movie Maker.
